🏀 Homeschool Sports & Activities in Alaska
Whether Alaska homeschool students can play public school sports and join activities and classes, and the rules that apply — from our Alaska guide.
Other Alaska programs: APS, dual enrollment, sports and new tax-credit scholarships
Sports and activities: under AS 14.30.365, a full-time student in grades 9–12 in an "alternative education program" that offers no interscholastic activities can join activities at the public school they would otherwise attend, or at another school with good cause and approval. Those programs include statewide correspondence schools serving out-of-district students and home school programs accredited by a recognized accrediting body. The student must meet school, district and ASAA eligibility rules and provide transcripts and proof of full-time enrollment. ASAA counts a home school program as accredited only if Cognia accredited it, so the statute does not cover most independent homeschools; those families should ask their local school and district. Students in their own district's correspondence program are treated under ASAA's bylaws as students of that district.
