College classes in high school, admission for homeschool graduates, and the state college aid Alaska homeschoolers can earn — from our Alaska guide and articles.

Other Alaska programs: APS, dual enrollment, sports and new tax-credit scholarships

Alaska Performance Scholarship (APS): Alaska's merit scholarship is open to Alaska residents who graduate from an Alaska public, private or home school. It requires a rigorous high school curriculum plus a minimum GPA or test score. ACPE lists three award levels: up to $7,000 a year (3.5 GPA, or ACT 25 / SAT 1210 / WorkKeys 18), up to $5,250 a year (3.0, or ACT 23 / SAT 1130 / WorkKeys 15) and up to $3,500 a year (2.5, or ACT 21 / SAT 1060 / WorkKeys 12), up to

8,000 in all, usable within 8 years of graduation (ACPE, as posted October 2026). Privately homeschooled students must ask DEED to determine their eligibility by July 15 before the award year, and must also file the FAFSA by the June 30 priority deadline. Correspondence students' eligibility is reported through their district.

Dual enrollment: University of Alaska Board of Regents policy P10.05.015 covers students simultaneously enrolled in K–12 or a homeschool, says the university encourages dual enrollment, and bars extra restrictions beyond those that apply to all students (other than legal compliance and parent consent). Whether a course earns high school credit is up to the school district. UAF offers a reduced-tuition Alaska Advantage option for dual-enrolled students. Correspondence programs may approve university courses in a student's ILP, so ask your program before registering.
