Other Kansas programs: college aid, driver's licenses and special education
Special education: every school district must locate, identify and evaluate children with exceptionalities who live in the district, and KSDE's child find guidance names home-schooled children. Ask your resident district for an evaluation in writing. For services, KSDE's Special Education Process Handbook (Chapter 14, June 2026) says the private school definitions behind Kansas's stronger private school services law (K.S.A. 72-3461, 72-3462) do not include home schooling. Under federal law a parentally placed child has no individual right to services. One route to services is part-time enrollment, since K.S.A. 72-3120(h) covers a district's "courses, programs or services." Ask your district how it serves part-time students with IEPs.
