Sports and activities: no Indiana law requires public schools to admit homeschoolers to classes or activities. IDOE says both are a local decision, so ask your school corporation. For IHSAA sports, rule 12-5 of the 2026–27 By-Laws lets a full-time student of a non-public, non-accredited school, which generally includes homeschools, play for the public school serving the student's home. The student must have been in the non-accredited school for the previous three years in a row and must complete any statewide exams authorized by IDOE. The homeschool must show the student meets IHSAA's academic rule (18-1), the student must be enrolled in at least one full-credit class in the member school's building, and the student, the homeschool and the public school must show IHSAA that the spirit of the eligibility rules isn't compromised. The rule doesn't require the public school to accept the student.
